Currently, the practice of mindfulness is linked to many religions and various secular traditions including Hinduism & Buddhism, yoga as well as non-religious meditation. It was a great way of being one with nature. Let me briefly specify the dates just so you understand how mindfulness has been around for ages:

In the East, the history of achieving mindfulness dates back to 1500 BC when the practice of yoga was first developed by the Hindus. One of the aims of the practice was to achieve peace of mind and spiritual enlightenment through mindfulness. Later on, an exercise named as Qi Gong was developed in Daoism around 600 BC. Buddhism also developed a breathing exercise around 535 BC to achieve mindfulness.
