Sample text:

Self-acceptance is hard for a lot of people. They measure themselves by society standards. They may say things like “I am too fat,” “I am not clever enough” or “I am not who my mother wants me to be” and there are a million other negative statements that people make to themselves every day of their lives. This exercise is to show you who you really are. Faced with the beauty of a site that you consider to be awesome, you begin to see how small human beings are in comparison to the world around them. It puts things back into perspective and helps you to learn what matters and what doesn’t matter. Your shape, your intelligence, your ego are all things that don’t matter at all. What matters is this acceptance of how small you are. It’s called humility.

As you look around the scene that you have chosen as being something that inspires awe, you seem to be very close to something very special that some people call God. Others call it being close to their Creator. You don’t have to be religious but an awesome sight can really pull you together in a very positive way. It makes you feel small in comparison and you need to strip yourself back to this smallness and then start to build on it. Instead of using negative statements to define who you are, you simply tell yourself that it isn’t size that matters. If you were the equivalent to a grain of sand, what would a beach be like with no sand? Thus, you can see that smallness doesn’t mean you have less importance. I feel that this exercise is necessary for anyone who is thinking of following the Mindfulness route because until you realize how small you are, how can you begin to build roots that will make you stronger and happier in yourself?
