Although meditation has gained popularity in the recent years, it had been an integral part of various societies since long back.

The word meditation is derived from the Latin word "meditatum" which roughly translates to Ponder. But the real practice of meditation can be first traced back to Hindu tradition of Vendantism. This has been in existence for some 2,600 plus years. 

Back in the days, West didn’t care much about meditation. To them, it was something that sparked the interest of the backward people. They weren’t able to see the therapeutic benefits then. But now, meditation is the new cool. Things have changed slowly but significantly. 

Various western professors tried to figure out the mystery behind meditation. With a lot of trials, they came to a positive conclusion stating meditation has shown usage of some 15% less oxygen and is known to stabilize the heart rates. Further, studies have revealed that meditation improves sleep.
