Mantra meditation involves repeating your mantra by either making an audible noise or doing so silently. Simply put, a mantra is a repeated word or phrase that should help you remain focused and motivated. Here a mantra serves as an instrument of the mind that helps you get into the deepest state of meditation. Transcendental meditation helps in avoiding distracting thoughts and promotes a state of relaxed awareness whereby ordinary thinking is “transcended” and then replaced by a state of pure consciousness. When you are in this state, you are able to achieve perfect stillness, rest, order, complete absence of mental boundaries and stability.

To come up with a mantra, you can choose your preferred word, sound or a phrase, and repeat it silently multiple times until you achieve relaxation. For instance, you can choose words or phrases such as ‘calm’, ‘peace’ ‘Om’ or ‘one’. Since a mantra should be effortlessly recited, ensure that you select a mantra that you can easily remember and automate. Be aware that you aren’t restricted to a single or particular mantra so you have to feel free exploring your creativity.
