A philosophica study of what Aristotle understand for Historiography

La concepción aristotélica de la historia

In two known passages (Po. 1451a36-b11 and 1459a17-32) Aristotle rejects the possibility of doing science of history. The history understood as research into human events is considered a stage prior to the scientific knowledge that, by its very nature, can not become the subject of a generalization, because historical events are inherently contingent, the result of a free decision at all times and they are not likely to come into causal relationship with each other. Nevertheless, Aristotle devoted much of his life to the development of a corpus of historical data with could help increase the accuracy of knowledge that, without being art or science, but only experience, is an indispensable preliminary for other materials also on men, especially of Politics, Rhetoric and Ethics. We propose in this paper to study how Aristotle approaches to all this information and what is the treatment that she does in the whole of his philosophy.
