As I write this, I ask myself whether I will be able to help my community, friends, family and others who will read this book. My way of thinking has changed drastically over the years. I am eager to share with you my wins and my struggles as well as my motivation and the inspiration to keep moving forward. More importantly, I’m excited to share how I, along with my husband, worked to achieve a better future for our family after surviving a major financial crisis. Despite the challenges and pitfalls, there were some necessary steps to living a more abundant and meaningful life.

I pray and cried many nights asking God if the solution was for me to join the military. As a middle schooler in Rio Rancho, New Mexico, I was part of the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corp. Later during my high school years in Puerto Rico, I was part of the Civil Air Patrol in Punta Salinas, and I loved it. I was passionate about going to the military and embraced that it was a real possibility for me. Although I prayed and cried about the decision, the reality was that my circumstances didn’t allow for me to join. It hit me hard. I was surrounded by active duty soldiers, their wives, my military family and many coworkers who were living a decent life as a result of their employment with the government. It had a significant impact on my belief in achieving success.
