THE TORTOISE AND THE RAIN

‘Brilliant! It started to rain! Maybe today is my day. I’m tired of being here. Maybe today

the water tank fills up and I can finally escape.’

‘Here, life is meaningless. I can only swim and swim around. Sit on the tree trunk to take some sun and stretch. That’s what my life is reduced to. Every day it’s the same, slipping down on the metal when I try to escape and return to the river.’

‘In this prison nothing has any value. This is why I refuse to eat what they give me and I

hunt flies; I need to feel that at least I eat something I get for myself.’

‘It’s still raining! That’s good! When I was in the river life was different. I swam slowly, without concerns. I remember taking naps in the shade of the trees that almost touched the water; the delightful times spent on that stone, enjoying the gentle morning sun; that sun, that when it rises leaves the frogs speechless and encourages the trout to jump behind the dragonflies.’

‘That was life! And to think that all changed since I saw the boat approaching and I was on the stone, hoping to see it go. Then, without knowing how, I was inside the boat and from there I ended up in this tank.’

‘It’s still raining! That’s good! I only need a little more water until the tank is full and I can escape.’

‘But ... it’s slowing down? Will it stop raining? Please rain, don’t stop no, no! Carry on pouring down until the tank is full! ... Oh no ...it stopped!’

‘Well ... maybe tomorrow it will rain again. All I need to get my freedom back is just a little bit more rain.’
