Eleanor of Aquitaine: Student-Teacher Edition by Laurel A. Rockefeller

Textbook edition of Eleanor's fascinating true story

Eleanor of aquitaine: student-teacher edition

Aliénor was the most sought after bride in all of Christendom – and not simply because she was beautiful. The eldest daughter of Duke William X of Aquitaine, she inherited his vast duchy at the age of just 15 and was crowned queen of the Franks that same year.

But love was not to be for the beautiful duchess, despite two marriages and giving birth to a total of ten children. Troubadours sang her praises and composed the first romantic love songs. Tales of King Arthur and his round table were first told in her honor. She transformed two emerging empires and made Aquitaine the most faithful continental ally to England.  She was a legend in her time and ours.  This is her remarkable true story.

Sample text:

In resplendent ceremony the archbishop of Canterbury crowned Henry as King Henry II Plantagenet and the very pregnant Duchess Eleanor as Eleanor Queen of England. Vows of service both took in response to their sombre anointing. Multiple crowns the archbishop placed on their heads, each fulfilling a different symbolism. After more than two hours the service completed and the king and queen rose from their thrones to process out of the church and into the London streets. Cheers rose up. Eighteen years of civil war seemed to melt away in the glory of their coronation service and the many parties spreading through England.  The warmongering and tyrannical Angevins were gone in favour of the peaceful Plantagenet. Peace, at very long last, belonged to England and its people.

Shrewdly the queen mother Matilda watched King Henry II and Queen Eleanor enjoy the success and adoration denied her.  Henry might take the credit, but in her heart Matilda understood there was more to ruling a country than jewelled crowns and pretty clothes. To keep the kingdom, Matilda and Eleanor would have to accomplish behind the scenes what her hot tempered son could not.

There was just one practical problem for this dynasty that now mutated from Angevin to Plantagenet: Eleanor was just as ambitious as Henry.
