Chapter 2 - Decide

To save time and take more action, it's critical to avoid indecision. Choices can be made in a matter of seconds. Although certain decisions may require some fact-finding, in my experience, "trying to decide" is usually just a form of procrastination fueled by fear of choosing badly. However, there is no such thing as a wrong decision. Each one advances you, even the so-called bad ones. When you refuse to decide, you remain where you are, and there is no room for growth or improvement.

This is particularly true for small, daily decisions. For instance, don't waste time reading an email and then setting it aside because you're uncertain about the next course of action. Be decisive. Determine the next step and execute it right away: reply, forward, or delete the message. If you don't have the time to act immediately, don't read the email. Why would you want to read an email multiple times when you already receive too many of them?

Another aspect of being a more decisive person is taking advantage of opportunities without overthinking the possibility of failure. For example, imagine you'd like to increase people’s recognition of your expertise in a certain area. An old friend contacts you to offer a speaking engagement during a webinar he is organizing at work. Would you accept? Many people would decline this opportunity, claiming they are not ready or are experiencing imposter syndrome. In contrast, a decisive person would quickly recognize that this opportunity aligns with their vision, say yes, then figure it out along the way. Don't deprive yourself of opportunities.
