Sample text:

Often times, encouraging phrases such as “good puppy!” and “good doggy!” or a pat on the back can be enough of a positive reward to reinforce good behavior. However, there are times when these tactics may not work. During these difficult instances, dog treats are your best friend. You may laugh, but treats play a very important role in the canine disciplinary process.

Most puppies love treats and are often willing to bend over backwards in order to get them. Hence, it is important to bear in mind the power of treats, and to use them as leverage in difficult situations. However, it is equally important to not overuse this reward concept. Bring out the treats when all else fails! Use treats when your dog truly deserves them.

Here are a couple of great techniques that you can use in the food in the training process:

Keep the treat just out of your dog’s reach in the palm of your hand – your dog is bound to try and jump up in order to get at it. Once they do this, teach them to obey your “sit” command and when they do, proceed to give them the treat as a reward.
Hold the treat in the palm of your hand, jut out of reach from your dog. Teach your dog the “stand” command. Combine this with moving the food in your hand forward slightly so that your dog has to stand in order to sniff it. At this point, it is advised that you to give them the treat.
