Retrain Your Brain & Organize Your Life

Declutter your brain

If your brain is cluttered, it is nothing to be ashamed of.  Everyone struggles with that at times. Think about when your room is disorganized. The answer isn’t to beat yourself up about it. You just need to clean it up.

You can think of your mind as a room. It is your private space that no one can access but you. With this comes the responsibility to keep it orderly because it affects every area of your life. This is an ongoing process. Just as you need to clean your bedroom regularly, you need to do the same for your mind.

There are so many stressors in life- work, family, friends, and the inconveniences that come up in life. There is an ebb and flow of hardships and peaceful times, and when things are going wrong they seem to pile up quickly. This can leave you feeling like your entire life is spiraling out of control.

That is how your mind ends up cluttered. First, you worry about one thing, which causes you to remember another thing. If this keeps going on too long, you will end up with a lot of disjointed thoughts. This makes it difficult to sleep and focus.

Thankfully, there are psychological techniques that have been developed to alleviate this. Because of how common a problem it is, there is a numerous amount of resources you can use to eliminate the clutter in your life. Think back to the bedroom analogy. There are probably a lot of things you’ll find in there that you no longer need- old planners, trash, clothes you don’t wear anymore, jewelry that has seen its better days. The list goes on, but all of it are things that need to go away because they are just taking up space that could be taken by something that would better serve you. In your mind, anxiety, stress, predictions of the future, wishing what happened in the past had gone differently and worrying about things that are beyond your control are junk. You want to replace these things with goals, dreams, and plans. This may seem far-fetched right now, but I know it is possible to change the way your mind works so that you can become the person you want to be rather than having to settle for less.

You have found the right book for you if you want to learn how to clean your mental environment and make it a more tranquil space.

And much more!

What happens in the outside world is beyond your control, so you have to focus on what is going on inside of you. Your mind is the most important part of yourself to keep healthy. Whenever our mental wellness is suffering, it gets in the way of our ability to function in our daily lives. It will impact your ability to make good decisions, how you respond to hardship, and your overall quality of life.

You can get a handle on your thoughts. If you work for it, you will get to the point where you can say what thoughts have a place in your mind instead of being led by them. Keep at mind what is at the core- stress and burnout. Do the practices we talked about daily. Transform your life into a more tranquil experience. Focus your energy on what needs to be done right now, not your end goal, what happened before, or what could happen in the future. If a thought comes in that falls into the unnecessary category, let it go. You make thoughts go away not by repressing them, but by allowing them to come and go without paying any mind to them.

If you feel yourself becoming overwhelmed again, that’s not horrible. It just means you need to renew your commitment to decluttering your brain. All you need to do is make today better. Sometimes it is as simple as reminding yourself to breathe and that there will be a solution to whatever is troubling you today.
