DA VINCI IN LOVE by Lázaro Droznes

The endless love story between Leonardo da Vinci and Mona Lisa

Da vinci in love

Leonardo welcomes Mona Lisa Ghirardini in his studio in the city of Florence to paint a portrait that was never delivered to the owner. Da Vinci kept the painting and started a long romance with her ideal woman that went on for 20 years through permanent retouching. The portrait accompanied Leonard during all his traveling and through different homes.

This dramatic fiction recreates the relationship of Leonardo with the Gioconda, with his assistants Salai and with the world and his relentless searching of truth and beauty. The painting keeps captivating Humanity after many centuries and keeps posing the same questions Da Vinci posed to himself:

Why is the Gioconda laughing? What mystery is hiding Mona Lisa? Why the smile is the portal to the soul? What is the nature of the divine feminine? The mysteries of La Gioconda syntethizes the mysteries of life and womanhood.

DA VINCI IN LOVE

A painter´s studio in the middle Ages. Many canvases everywhere on lecterns. There is a big table where dyes and paints are being prepared. Barely visible in the back there are several mechanical artifacts invented by Leonardo da Vinci. In a prominent place we can see the Verrocchio's David. On one of the walls hangs a huge sketch of the Vitruvius Man.There are two huge windows that let the light inside with linen curtains filtering the rays and producing the sfumato (softening) effect. All the light in the studio is coming through the windows with the filtering effect.Leonardo, a 50 years old bearded man is experimenting with a dark chamber (camera obscura). Enters Salai, a young, healthy, beautiful 30 years old boy. He is stunning. A real Adonis.

SALAI
Master… The Lady Mona Lisa Ghirardini wishes to see you.

LEONARDO
Let her in.

Enters Mona Lisa, a good loking,30 years old lady. She doesn´t look like the woman in the Mona Lisa portrait. Her head is covered with a hair bonnet.

LEONARDO
My Lady, I´m Leonardo da Vinci at your service.

MONA LISA
Master da Vinci, you don´t have to introduce yourself. Everybody is talking about you.

LEONARDO
Thanks for coming to my studio, My Lady

MONA LISA
You don´t have to thank for it. I came because my husband ordered me to do so. I don´t know If I should tell you that… (stops trying to chose the right words)

LEONARDO
Tell me, Madame…

MONA LISA
I came to your studio… but with many doubts… and only to please my husband.

LEONARDO
There´s nothing to be afraid of…

MONA LISA
Everybody says that the Great Leonardo never finished anything because he thinks just too much.
