Apocalypse archer

Surviving the apocalypse with only a bow and backpack sounds like fun to Viera. Until someone tries to kill her.

She only wanted a weekend alone with her bow, but an explosion over the city sent a cloud of energy into the mountain campground. Now she's stranded and has a strange message that assigns her the class of Level 1 Archer, and tells her to align with light or darkness.

Choosing either will leave her with enemies who will stop at nothing to take everything from her: her weapons, her gear, her life.

Will she find an ally and follow the game's instructions, or die in the first few minutes of the apocalypse?

Apocalypse Archer is a novelette entry into Tim Kaiver's Ciphercraft series of Science-Fantasy LitRPGs written for RealRPG fans of Tao Wong, Blaise Corvin and Dave Willmarth. LitRPG elements include leveling up, healing and survivalist strategies, gameworld PvE, and quest adventures to discover the realm behind reality and the monsters that come through to present day. No harem or foul language, but has moments of extreme violence.

Apocalypse Archer can be read as a standalone, but the events within take place between Books 1 and 2 of the Ciphercraft series.

Sample text:

Viera slid the cooler into the back of the SUV, beneath the tent poles and archery gear. She hadn't taken her bow out in months, but if she were going to enjoy anything about this stupid weekend, it would be acting like a kid again, loosing arrows at woodland targets as though fighting for her life in a world of mythical creatures. After months spent studying, she needed some make-believe fun, and the freedom nature gave her to be herself without anyone watching.

She shouldered her weight into the door of the overstuffed trunk until it clicked shut. "All set!"

"Oh good," Sienne said from the passenger side. "Here I thought asking for you to finish in this lifetime was becoming too much to ask."

Viera directed a cross look at her friend, though she couldn't see her through the tinted windows of her father's SUV. But, Sienne was right. Viera had run out of stall tactics. Better to get this over with. The sooner she got them to the campground, the sooner she could loose her arrows.

As she walked around the black SUV to the driver's side, she admired the still-new paint job and shiny silver "Starflyer" decal… which returned her mind to her worries about having to fly. She'd earned her A license earlier this summer, which permitted her to fly a car into the mountains, but the SUV had extra gears she'd never used in the wild—especially for going into elevations like the mountains. If a flock of birds appeared out of nowhere... frame or paint damage would be the least of her worries.

She sighed and opened her door.

"Hello! Welcome to 3011. I'm glad I brought water..." Sienne winked.

"Please, you've spent all but the last-minute dolling yourself up for Jax. If I forced you to do your makeup in the air, you'd have lines all over your face."
