I'm a young but talented translator with a special interest in working on fantasy or sci-fi literature

Matheus ribeiro

I have experience translating Sci-Fi games like the Half-Life and Portal series (and other Valve Software games) to Portuguese, voluntarily. Although they are clearly not books, they have a rich storytelling, very creative and well-made writing and give a great insight to what means to translate a Science Fiction story. As a translator, I have incouraged and helped the brazilian translation team to reflect and discuss more on the several different aspects and elements that make such games' stories so unique. Small but extremely important things such as the character's personalities, the nuances of the in-game terms, how to make the dialogues sound more natural and so on became recurrent themes in the reunions. Eventually I was promoted to one of the team's moderators.

Beyond that, I have worked as a freelance translator, having translated several articles, advertisements, websites. The subjects ranged from Network Marketing to Teeth Whitening and Shampoos.

Besides all that, I'm very used to read Fantasy and Sci-Fi literature, both in Portuguese and English, always paying attention to what and how authors write their narratives and how translators deal with difficulties and challenges. I often notice translation errors, many of which I could easily avoid.

I am a Germanistics and Literature student at Universidade Federal Fluminense in Niterói, Rio de Janeiro. I speak Portuguese, English and German, although I don't feel confortable translating German.
