Grown-up students - who are they?

Students who, by standards, are long out of student age, are not a surprise to anyone abroad. On average, each university group usually has 1-2 adult students who study at the same level as yesterday's school leavers. Most of them are working professionals who return to university to gain new knowledge and qualifications. While many adult students have had no previous university experience, others already have a bachelor's or even a master's degree and continue their studies to obtain a higher degree or a degree in another field.

Thus, further education is most often aimed at retraining or deepening knowledge in an existing profession (e.g. when it is required for promotion). Another important reason for the popularity of further education is self-development. According to statistics, the older the student, the more important this criterion becomes. At the same time, many students, having completed their first degree in their youth and having already made a career, return to higher education to study some other subject they have always been interested in.

The advantages of studying as an adult

There are, oddly enough, many benefits to returning to study as an adult, which most adult students note.

Here are a few reasons to return to university in your 30s:

You'll be able to make a more informed choice of institution, subject and programme

You will actually get the qualification you need, based on your current working conditions and plans for the future

Depending on your interests, the new qualification will enable you to progress in your career, do something new or achieve personal growth

When you return to your studies you will diversify your life, have new experiences and meet new people

You will be able to combine study and work through a variety of international and distance learning options

As an adult with your own budget, you will be able to budget your study costs

Finally, you will be able to feel like a young student again, with a new chapter in life just beginning!Universities also appreciate adult students. They say, for example, that they are usually more focused and assiduous than younger students. Mature students are willing to pay more attention to their studies and take the process itself more seriously. Not surprisingly, those who consciously return to learning as adults usually really want to learn.
