Chances We Take by Rider Jacobs

Be a piranha among goldfish

Chances we take

“My uncle always said you have to be a piranha among goldfish, as a result, I killed my first person when I was ten.”

There were two things expected of Rigo, to make the professional soccer team and lead the family business. He became a star on the soccer field, but behind the boyish grin lurked a dark secret. Rigo was known as one of the leading members of the Colombian Drug Cartel. When Rigo meets Danni he falls head over heels in love. He is determined to win the heart of Danni who is more interested in her music career than dating Soccer’s Bad Boy. When Danni agrees to go out with him, Rigo must balance running the cartel and date the girl of his dreams. Suddenly all he has ever worked for comes to a complete standstill.

”In this life family is all you have and you would do anything to protect them.”

“Don’t tell me that you didn’t watch it,” Romel punched my arm.

“Yeah, I watched it because it was on but I didn’t really pay attention. So Danni are you ready to go out with me yet?”

She looked at me with those large brown eyes. She pursed her lips as if she was actually thinking about it. “Not yet, last I checked you haven’t become a man yet.”

“Let me show you how much of a man I am,” I waggled my eyebrows.

She gave me the once over, “Can you grow facial hair?”

I shook my head, my hand automatically going up to rub my chin.

“When you become old enough to grow facial hair come find me.”

“Come on girls lets head up to my room.” Romel grabbed a bag of chips and a few bottles of pop.

“Can I come?” I looked at Romel.

“You heard Danni when you get facial hair.”

They all laughed as they left the kitchen.

“Ignore them Rigo.” Vinnie patted my back.

I turned to smile at him, not at all bothered that I couldn’t go with them. Danni was interested in me, I was sure of it. “One of these days she will say yes.”
